About Valerie Allison, BCBA, MS

VcIt’s funny how I stumbled into this role!

I thought I was applying for a mental health counselor position, but they were actually hiring for a behavior therapist.

I didn’t know that at the time, so I was a bit confused when I found myself in a center filled with children.

But surprisingly, it felt like home… and didn’t feel like work!

I thought I had botched the interview…

As they were asking me questions, I saw a kid put a toy in his mouth. Without thinking, I asked him to spit it out into my hand.

I thought that was going to cost me the job, but I got hired on the spot!

The first child I worked with was small but full of energy – biting, kicking, pinching – you name it. It wasn’t easy, and I often went home with bruises, but I was determined to teach him to use visuals to ask for his favorite things.

If you choose me…
